Our goal is to reconnect students with the world outside and learn more fully where the food on our plates comes from and what goes into growing the food we eat. Each class has its own area so that the classes have ownership of their garden and can easily tie classroom learning to outdoor experiences.
The STA Garden aims to use the vegetables, fruits, and herbs grown in the garden in the school lunch program with the assistance of the Culinary Director, Mrs. Anna Contreras. Anything not used in the school kitchen will be donated to St Vincent De Paul.
We embrace the value of experiential learning and understand the importance of getting out of the classroom on occasion. We anticipate that students will be more eager to try new foods if they have grown the food in their own gardens.
The STA Garden integrates the classroom and the outside world together. During the growing season, classes and the school as a whole will literally measure success by weighing the produce harvested each time and recording it in a central location for all to see.
- Bless us Oh Lord, and these thy gifts, which we are about to receive, from thy bounty, through Christ, Our Lord. Amen.
