Job Title: Before and After School Coordinator/Summer Program Closing Teacher

• Days/Hours: Monday through Friday 6:30-8:30 am and 3:00-5:45 pm during the school year; workdays align with the school year calendar. Approximately one (1) paid duty-free workday per month for planning and prep plus staff meeting if scheduled. There is the possibility of adding more hours during the summer program and during the school year as a substitute teacher or extra duty assignments as qualified.

• Summer Program Closing Teacher hours would be M-F 1:30-5:30 during the summer program with the possibility to add hours depending on staff scheduling needs.

• Rate of Pay: Hourly employee, rate of pay depends upon experience starting at $14.00/ hour. Not eligible for benefits or PTO.

Job description:

The Before and After School Coordinator at STA cares for our STA students that are registered for before and after care programs at the school.  The BASP Coordinator most often supervises the group of students alone until attendance ratios require a second adult.  This position is responsible for planning, preparing, and delivering developmentally appropriate activities for a multi-age group of students that will keep them engaged and participating in safe activities independently or as a group.  

The BASP Coordinator will understand and follow Oregon Department of Education/Early Learning Division's health and safety requirements for operating a Certified Childcare Center in partnership with the STA Director. 

Requirements:

  • Recognition of Step 8 on the ORO Step Registry, or combination of eligible College Credits and/or work experience to qualify as “Teacher” status within ORO.

  • Current First Aid/CPR certification

  • Current Food Handler’s Card (Oregon)

  • Completion of Safety Set Webinar/Certifications (RRCAN, ICHHS, Prevention is Better than Treatment)

  • Successful completion of Central Background Registry background check

  • Successful completion of Diocese of Baker background check and Darkness to Light class

  • Employee will be responsible for completing 15 hours of Early Childhood related Professional Development coursework over the employment year as required by ODE/ELD.

  • Ability to use email communication effectively and possess computers skills and abilities to use the internet for training and certification tracking purposes.

  • Employee must possess strong communication skills to appropriately communicate with students, staff, teachers, and parents. Ability to exercise good judgment and work within an environment with frequent interruptions.

  • Physical Demands: While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to stand, walk, and spend time supervising outdoor activities with students. The employee may be required to sit, stoop, kneel or stand and must regularly lift and/or move up to 25 pounds.

Additionally, the employee would be required to support the mission of St. Thomas Academy including supporting Religious education, respecting cultural diversity unique to the school, and working to reduce bias/stereotyping.  The employee would be expected to speak, act and instruct students in a manner consistent with the teachings of the Catholic church, and contribute to a cooperative spirit within the school community.
